Where do Red Puppies
Come From?
I used to say,
Heart of Texas, That' s Where!
But now it looks like
EVERYWHERE!
Texas, New York, Colorado, North Dakota, California,
Arizona, Louisiana,
Minnesota, Tennessee, Massachusetts!

Grand Champion 'PR' Alasco's Tyler First Red Alkai
Grand Champion 'PR' Heart o' Texas Hondo Harmony
Currently there are
over 50 Red and White Alaskan
Klee Kai living
in the breed.
28 were bred either at Heart of Texas or thru a stud
service of H.O.T.
Most
of the red dogs
are in-tact and at least 9 of
them have produced
healthy offspring. As far as I know
and my
records show that
The Red
AKK have been born in the following order.

* Not to be confused with our own TAKAANI (duplicate name)
residing in North Carolina

Many years ago when Grand Champion
'PR' Alasco's Tyler First Red Alkai, August 16, 1999,
was born, Many
people started thinking
that NOW we were going to have Red and White
Alaskan Klee Kai. Carol Din had a vision of little red and white
puppies as well as
the rest.
She pulled out pedigrees and researched
until she thought she knew where they could
come from. She then set out
to get
dogs with those bloodlines, and raise them until they were
old
enough to breed. One of the two that she had in mind that might be
able
to reproduce the
red puppies, didn't get along with one of her
foundation dogs. Bad day for her. What a
lucky day for me.
I wound up
with Grand Champion 'PR' Widdershin's Toe Tapping Tempo
and Champion
'PR' Widdershin's Jive Rhythm Rocks.

In February 2004, I had a couple
of days that I had Chest pains. So I had to leave those two
dogs home alone while I went to the
emergency room. 63 days later, on Easter
Sunday,
while I was sleeping, Tempo gave me a wonderous Easter Gift.
Two babies.
1 black and white little girl, and 1 Oh My! A Red and White
little girl.
Anthem and Psalm. I didn't even know what I had. I
posted
a picture to the TLC group and within minutes, I was getting
emails back...
asking if there were problems with the monitor, or was
that little girl.. RED?
Yes she was.

That Summer, I lost Rhythm. I
wondered if we lost our chance for reds as well or if
breeding with
another male would work, or if
that was it. We no longer have the
sire
of Tyler either with us in the AKK Community. I thought that I had been
neglectful
of a trust
put to me and failed to protect the chance of us
bringing this color out
in the breed. It was back to pedigree research
yet again.. I
found a male puppy available.
He was related to Rhythm
by his father being a littermate to Rhythms father. I thought..
Just
Maybe.
It could be......

I did acquire this dog, and since
then, they created a test, to test for red factor, that had not been
around at the time of this dogs birth and
acquisition, it was a few
months before
I could even test to see if it was possible, but, chance
Brought us Tyler, and
pedigree research
brought us Psalm, so I was
willing to take another chance. I did later
test King and found that he
is Red Factored. How Exciting. It was
hard to wait until
King grew
up and it was time to breed Tempo again.

In July, Tempo and King were
bred. On October 2, 2004, Tempo presented us with
two Red Boys. Rocky
and Buddy.

I feel like science can give you
the possibility or impossibility, but not the probability. I know
the
possibility is that each puppy
has a 25% chance of being red. Each and
every one if Both
parents are red factored. By all odds, Tempo having
so many is a
chance of 1 in 10s of
thousands. So I think there must be
something else that science has not explained
to us yet. Scientific
Research
is a theory until it is proven wrong. Our population is so
small
that it will be a long time before we can "prove" anything.

Buddy 10/2/2004
There are those who complain that they have not been
given credit for this litter being
born. It is not to be taken as an
offense
that no one else is given credit for this breeding. The
litter
was planned by me, the dogs were bred by Helderberg Huskies,
Widdershin
Estates,
with a little help from Dragonsweyr. I could go back as far
as our lines go to the beginning
of the breed
in attempt to not leave
anyone out, but I chose to place these dogs together to
attempt to get
another red puppy based on
pedigree analysis.

The above paragraph has changed.
There has now been a litter of puppies
born that the sire was
tested for Red
Factor before being bred,
although he was the sire to Rhythm, so we knew
that he
had to
be Red Factored. This breeding produced 2 Black and White
Girls,
1 Red and White Male,
and 1 Solid White Male. The Solid white
male turned
out to have liver points
instead of black which
means that he would
have tested as a red dog.
He also had green eyes. Which in itself is rare in our
breed.
We kept the two girls and the red and white male.

Malaia and Ruby
At this time, I have seen no
unusual health problems in the red dogs.
Red AKK are no different, no better, and
no worse in terms of
health
issues than any other color of AKK.
No one breeder can tell you more or less
about the
health of the breed
based on color, but only about the dogs, that they
have produced.

"Cali"
As with anything new in a
breed, the Red AKK will need to be monitored for several
years and
generations for anything
to be spoken about them, positive or
negative,
with confidence. The offspring of these dogs (from H.O.T.) will be only
placed on strict
companion contracts, Co-ownership Contracts
or with approved experienced
breeders
to be able to
monitor health in the puppies
as well as
their offspring
for a few generations. Stud
Services will
be provided on a case by case basis to
breeders
who will follow a similar responsible plan with the offspring that they
place.
*
There have now also been Multiple breedings of Red to
Red that have produced puppies.
All of the puppies as expected have been red and white except one that
was a
liver pointed white puppy. We are also now testing some of the
liver pointed dogs that are
either white or pale red for the
purpose of
verifying information for the breed.
