My First
Alaskan Klee Kai, were Champion 'PR' Jive Rhythm Rocks
and
Grand Champion 'PR' Widdershin's Toe Tapping Tempo
In 1999 I went to a dog show and saw
what appeared to me to be a five month old Siberian Husky. I
asked the owner if I could pet her and he said yes. I reached
out for her to pet her and asked if she was what about five??
Meaning five months old, before I could get the word months
out... He said "Yes, She is five years old" I was
flabbergasted. As a long time breeder of Siberian Huskies, and
many time having to reject what would have been otherwise a good
family for a pet; with the concept of, If only there was
Apartment size huskies....I found an apartment size husky. I
went straight home and got on the internet.. I had to find out
more about these little jewels. After getting a lot of info,
Getting rid of most of my huskies, and getting answers from some
breeders and always an excuse from others, On Thanksgiving Day,
2002 I received my first darlings. Carol Din brought them to me
from New Jersey where they were born at
Widdershin Estates.
I had to hold them very tight to get them to stay there. They
didn't know me.
Tempo was a few days over a year old and Rhythm was 9 months
old. I loved them. They were not too sure about me. When
their Grandma left them with me( I thought she never would, that
she was going to change her mind and take them home with her.)
They had to be chased down and caught to be touched. Oh MY! I
thought that they must hate me. They ran together, but didn't
want me messing with them. On Christmas Day, Ms. Tempo finally
came to me and let me pet her.. She sat at the end of my bed
and if I stretched a little and didn't get to close, She
suffered me to touch her fur. Then on New Years Day, they both
allowed me to touch them. WOW.. Slowly but surely they then
came around. I still have liver treats in my bedroom for them.
They finally did come around, and there is more to the bonding
on the memorial page about Rhythm. I think if they would not
have had each other whom they were already bonded it would have
made a big difference. But they did.. and We still bonded. I
would never recommend getting two dogs that were used to being
together to anyone else for just this reason. It takes much
patience.
On April 20, 2003, they blessed me and
Carol & Frank Din with a pair of
daughters.
One Black and White brown eyed beauty and one history making Red
and White Blue eyed darling. I expect both of them to Wow
judges and guests alike. It is my guess that they are the most
photographed litter of puppies ever. Both puppies appear at
this time to be an excellent representation of their breed, But
Psalm seems to get more attention where ever she goes just
because of her color.
I
have learned that these dogs are not at all like Siberian
huskies although the appearance is close. They are still little
huskies indeed, but they will not go off with strangers like
their larger cousins. You cannot hook up the wagon to them to
take the thieves stuff to their truck. If you are not THEIR
human, they are not likely to just freely come up to you. You
would have a hard time catching them if they are not yours,
where as their owners can stoop down and call them and they will
come running. Siberians are not near as fiercely loyal as this
breed is. They are more skittish, but I like the difference
between the breeds. Any one who has had a dog of a gregarious
breed stolen from them can truly appreciate a pet that doesn't
want strangers messing with them. As I sit her typing this,
Tempo sits beside me. If I go to the other room she will follow
and will do so all day long. She is mine and I am hers. |
