Mark Manley and Barbara Williams of Heart of Texas Alaskan Klee
Kai have been breeding dogs (Sibes, Poodles, & Chows) and
livestock for decades. We do not have college degrees in
genetics or animal husbandry, but our decades of experience make
our kennels stand out at the top. Our breeding stock comes from
several different breeders, and now some of our own.
We are not
only dedicated to breeding to improve on the parents, but to
also improve the over all breed. Anyone can breed to improve
upon the parent dogs. But the parents have to be of a certain
quality to meet Heart of Texas Standards to be bred. They not
only have to have something to donate to the gene pool for the
future of the Alaskan Klee Kai Breed, but
Health, Conformation, Temperament is a trinity....You cannot
breed for one or the other but all three must be present to
qualify for breeding potential.
(For
those who say that structure is not as important, picture an old
German Shepard, with hip displaysia that has to be medicated
daily to be ably to walk and eventually has to be euthanized to
end the poor dogs suffering.)
Breeding stock
for the Heart of Texas breeding program must, at minimum, be
healthy and of champion caliber.
The
temperaments of the Heart of Texas Alaskan Klee Kai are
friendly, social, and loving. They are our children and our
babies.
There are
people who say, " I wouldn't even breed his dog if it wasn't for
_______________". Maybe they shouldn't be breeding it then.
I see many
post that they guarantee their puppies for a certain amount of
years for genetic and hereditary disorders. It is easy to
say it, quite another to stand behind it. Some of those
who post it have actually declined replacing their puppies or
blamed it on the puppy owner to avoid it. Most health
issues like that will show up in the first year. We will
replace any puppy with genetic or hereditary disorders with a
like puppy within the same bloodline or not, which ever the
preference of the puppy buyer.
